Welcome to the Grill & Chill Challenge!
When I first started making a monthly meal plan, I had a meal designated for each day. The intention was to plan every day so we would eat at home every night. However, by the end of the month, I wasn’t following the plan anymore. I need flexibility and I am sure you do too! Therefore, I am supplying you with enough recipes for a month’s worth of meals. From those, you can choose which ones you would like to include in your weekly or monthly meal plan.
Now, why a whole month you ask? Well, because I’m a mom of a toddler and shopping with him can be difficult. So, I try to go to the store just twice a month. I shop at Costco at the beginning of the month. At our store, I can usually find organic produce, meat, frozen veggies and non-perishables. Then, halfway through the month I will stock up on additional fresh produce at Whole Foods or the local farmer’s market.

To save money, I have created the Grill & Chill challenge to pledge to eat grilled or chilled food for a month. Feeling overwhelmed with the idea of grilling everyday? Me too, but here’s why it is important…By grilling outside, the warmth of cooking food is kept outside of the house. In return, your air conditioner will not have to work harder to cool down your house.
Tip: Some recipes are easier to make if you use your cast iron on the grill!
Genius, right?! Another way to eating smart in the Summer is to make foods that require no cooking at all. Believe it or not, many raw food recipes are both nutritious AND delicious. Plus, chilled foods are a great treat after being outside in the humid heat.
Now, on to the fun part! Let’s do the Grill & Chill Challenge together and support each other while we save some pennies on our energy bill. I had planned on doing this in July but we were traveling a lot. With Labor Day coming up, I think September is perfect. Are you ready to Grill & Chill?!
I have picked out 20 Grill and 10 Chill recipes and most of the recipes make 4-6 generous servings. There are two adults and one toddler in our family. We usually make five dinners a week, have two nights for leftovers, and eat leftovers for lunch. This is what works best for us so that I’m only cooking one meal a day. Feel free to modify to your needs.
