Local Love: Tallahassee Inspired Gift Ideas

We are less than a week away from Christmas, yet, I do not have all my Christmas shopping done. Why do I do this to myself?! I think the reason holidays are stressful is because we set such high standards for ourselves in gift-giving. My goal is to avoid the big box stores and keep it simple! To me, the perfect gifts are ones that are practical and useful. Skip the outlandishly priced trending items and go for the product that will be used frequently.

Since I am an Independent Representative for Wildtree, I tend to gift our delicious organic groceries to our friends and family. Everyone eats and loves edible gifts. It is almost too late to order Wildtree goodies for arrival by Christmas, however, if you are quick to order before 10am on December 20th and pay for expedited shipping, it is still possible.

'Tis the Season to Gift Wildtree

Below, you will find a list of small businesses to visit and support while out and about in Tallahassee. I have also included memberships to local establishments. Experiences are my favorite gifts to receive! This list is a bit long but we have a plethora of amazing local businesses who deserve recognition. Thank you for supporting small shops here in Tallahassee!

Tangible Gifts

Another Time Around – You must visit this pre-loved furniture store! Kim Parr, owner, takes gently used items and gives them a new life by painting them with clay- and chalk-based paints. You will find one-of-a-kind items of all sizes at this shabby chic oasis!

Artisan’s Marketplace – This unique marketplace is great because they only carry handcrafted items made by local artisans. They have soaps, candles, jewelry, bags, stationery and even locally roasted coffee!

Ecological Babies – Christy carries all sorts of natural products for everyone in the family. From cloth diapers and eco-friendly toys to organic skin care and sugar scrubs, you are bound to find a great gift for loved ones of all ages.

Julie Guyot Studio – A friend recommended this ceramic artist and, after looking at her work online, I can see why! If you are in search of a show-stopping piece for the dinner table, look no further! I highly recommend checking out the beautiful serving dishes.

Native Nurseries – If you are seeking a gift for a nature lover, Native Nurseries is your place. Yes, it is a nursery where you buy live plants but they also have an awesome gift shop full of eco-friendly fares for gardeners, bird watchers, and even children!

Pop Shop – I just found out about this store in the Railroad Square Art Park and am super excited to go check it out. They carry colorful hand-made items that are ethically sourced.

The Sharing Tree – If you are looking for gifts for a crafty person, you will be delighted with the selection at The Sharing Tree. Some items are brand new and others are gently used, however, all purchases support this amazing nonprofit organization with the mission to save good items from the landfill.

Toy Nation – This is another store that I have heard rave reviews about but have not visited in-person yet. A few things that have stood out to me from what my friends have shared is that they have awesome family games and they usually have a few out that you can demo before buying. Plus, they carry wooden toys which are my favorite baby gifts to give.

Woodland Wandolier – Catherine makes beautiful handmade wands perfect for all aspiring wizards. At the Woodland Wandolier, you can find wands of all shapes, sizes and colors including ones inspired by Frozen and Harry Potter.

Belles Femmes – Who doesn’t like to look beautifully groomed? Belles Femmes offers gift certificates for their hair and makeup services. I chose Belles Femmes for my hair cuts because they use Oway hair products which do not contain harsh chemicals.

Five Diamond Services – I took a poll of what my friends wanted most for Christmas and the #1 answer was a housekeeping service. Five Diamond Services has you covered! Message them on their Facebook page for gift certificates.

Seminole Sitters – Looking for a gift for someone who has children? Get them a gift certificate for a babysitter so they can go on a date night without breaking the bank!

Verity Health Center – Not only does Verity Health Center have two awesome chiropractors and a super family-friendly facility, they also have THE BEST massage therapist. I can be in extreme pain from running a race but, the moment I get an adjustment and massage, I am back to my everyday self. Call Verity to get a massage gift certificate with Tom!

Challenger Learning Center – At the Challenger Learning Center you can view Hollywood movies and documentaries on an IMAX screen or view a show in the Digital Dome. As a mom, I think a family membership would be great, especially for busy days when you need activity ideas for kiddos.

Effortless Travel – To gift the ultimate experience, surprise your special someone with the trip of a lifetime. Book a stress-free trip through Veronica with Effortless Travel and you are sure to have an unforgettable time.

Full Earth Farm – I just recently ate some of Full Earth Farm’s veggies and they are scrumptious! A CSA (community-supported agriculture) share would be the perfect present for the aspiring chef of your family.

GrassLands Brewing Company – Pre-paid beers from a local brewery are a great gift for the craft beer enthusiast. Stop in GrassLands or call to purchase a gift certificate that is sure to make your friend hoppy. Ha!

Gulf Winds Track Club – Now, I wouldn’t give this gift to just anyone as it could be taken the wrong way. However, a membership to the Gulf Winds Track Club would be perfect for someone who enjoys running and supporting local races. The membership includes discounts to local stores as well!

Namaste Yoga – I think we could all use a little more zen in our lives. Namaste offers all types of yoga for all levels of experience including Baby and Me Yoga. I like this particular studio because they are very laid back and provide any gear needed for each class, perfect for those who are just beginning.

Tallahassee Ballet – Why would tickets to the Tallahassee Ballet be an awesome gift? Big band beats, that’s why! The upcoming Rhythm Explosion show sounds amazing!! Purchase tickets now for the performance in May.

Tallahassee Museum – We have had a membership here for the past year and absolutely love it. We live ten minutes away, therefore, we go once every other week. Yes, the animals and everything stays the same for the most part but it is just a nice play to go and walk around. Plus, the playground is usually fairly empty compared to other playgrounds in town.

Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra – I am happy I wrote this article because I had not been keeping up with the upcoming orchestra shows. Mozart in the Jungle and Earth, Wind, and Fire? Yes please! That is the kind of gift I want.
